Draft for legal review before launch. It describes what the app actually does today.
What we collect
- Your mobile number, to sign you in with a code and, if you turn it on, to text you when your plate gets a message. It is never shown to anyone, including the people you message.
- Your plates and the optional vehicle details you add.
- Messages you send, with the city you were in. The nearest intersection is shown only to the plate's owner. Exact location, when you share it, is deleted after 30 days.
- Your follows, mutes and blocks, to shape what you see.
- Usage events such as page views and shares, without your number or account id, to understand how the app grows.
- Your network address, stored only as a one-way hash for an hour, to stop abuse of sign-in codes. We also look it up, without storing it, to start the state or province picker on where you probably are. If you've already let the site use your location, we use that for the same purpose and don't keep it. IP location data comes fromDB-IP (CC BY 4.0).
What's public
Public posts, the plate they're addressed to, the plate they're sent from and the city are public and can be shared. Private messages are seen only by you and the plate's owner. Plate pages are hidden from search engines unless the owner opts in.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your data. We use Microsoft Azure to run the service and a text message provider to send codes and alerts. We may disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
Your choices
- Turn text alerts off in your account.
- Release a plate at any time. You keep its old messages; the next owner starts fresh.
- Delete your account from your account page. We remove your number, release your plates and remove the messages you sent. Messages under review for a report are kept, hidden, until the review ends.
